Family Movie Themed Night..

In the immortal words of the Great Lil Kim.
"I've been gone for a minute now I'm back with the jump off."
(I crack myself up sometimes)

I know it's been a good minute since I've posted on my blog. I've been on a BIG project since the end of last month, so I couldn't come to my blog as often as I wanted to.
Believe me, I missed it too! I just missed expressing myself and trying new things, it's really helping me to find my inner voice and express myself creatively. The dinners are purely for me and my family. I am not a chef by any means, but I LOVE trying new things, you know, just to break up the monotony and make it fun for my family. I love seeing their faces when I Pinterest or YT and recipe and it comes out as planned.
Sometimes good and sometimes bad..

A couple of Fridays ago was Japanese Night.
I love setting the table and make it an "experience" for them..
Our main dish was Shrimp, California, Spring and Avocado Rolls.
Accompanied by Miso soup, Edamame, Eel sauce and Sake (for the adults, of course).

(Most of my ingredients are located at your local Tom Thumb Grocer)
Nori Seaweed Sheets (Tom Thumb
Sushi Rice
Rice Wine Vinegar
Miso soup packets (Tom Thumb)
Soy Sauce
Shrimp (fried)
Long Green Onions
Chili Sauce (optional)
Sriracha Mayo (optional)
Spring Roll Wrapper (FAIL)
Sushi Mat

Cut your veggies up length way.

Prepare Sushi Rice as directed on rice packet.
Making sure you let it cool..

Place Seaweed Sheet (shiny side down) on Sushi Mat.

Spread a nice layer on the bottom quarter on the sheet.

Now were getting to the good part..
The Eel Sauce,
combine one-third cup of Mirin, one-third cup of Soy Sauce and 3 Tablespoons of sugar. Put in a small simmering pot and cook of about 7-8 minutes until it starts to thicken..
Take it off the fire and it will thicken even more when its cooled.
It taste soo sweet..

Layer your veggies and topping you like over on the rice.
I also spread a little Eel sauce on it.
This one is a Avocado Roll for Nile..
She doesn't like Seafood.

Roll the mat away from you,
making sure you cup or squeeze the mat making sure the roll is tight..

It should come out like this..
If it doesn't. don't worry, keep trying and it will be better next try.

I roll then up one by one, then cut them the size I want.

I boiled Edamame as directed on package.
Also, do the same with the Miso soup..

They didn't taste well, the wrapper was nasty..

The family loves our Themed Movie Nights.
Such fun making memories..

Until Next Time...

Make It Chic...

From the Beach to the City... Sewing! Tunic time...

Cynthia Rowley - Simplicity 2854..Well this year my family and I are taking 2 trips in one... We going to the beach and back home to New Orleans (my hometown).. I want to make a couple of pieces that I can transition in both places.. Well I think I found something else.. I love tunics.... In blogs to come I will take pictures of tunics I've sewn through the years.
Simplicity 2584 View B:

This pattern was one of my first pattern that I purchased... years.. I was too scared to try the yoke (neckline), that I put it in the back of my patterns..I went to Wal-Mart and purchased this Home Decor, Linen-like fabric..  I couldn't pass up $3 per yard, so I got 3 yards.
Advice: Read your patterns and when you can't understand them. read them again.. I have a tendency to look and skim through patterns. This one had me praying.
Below: I love how it came out.. I know I'll be making a few more for the trip, some in contrasting colors... I can put flip flops on for the beach and we…
